Nigeria face Sudan today at 6pm in their second group match at the African Nations Championship in Zanzibar, needing victory to keep their knockout hopes alive.
The Eagles B, runners-up in 2018, began the tournament with a narrow 1-0 loss to defending champions Senegal, leaving them bottom of the group with no points.
Sudan opened with a 1-1 draw against Congo and will aim to build on that result, with Musa Hussein, their only scorer so far, leading their attack.
Nigeria will be looking to improve on their lacklustre display in the opener, where they created few clear chances.
Coach Eric Chelle will be counting on Sikiru Alimi and Jabbar Malik to provide the goals, while tightening up at the back to avoid another setback.
A win would put Nigeria back in strong contention for a quarter-final spot, but defeat could all but end their CHAN 2024 campaign.
