Nigeria’s karate team is aiming for greater international triumphs following bronze medal performances by Rita Ogene (-68kg) and Israel Jegede (-84kg) at the 11th Commonwealth Karate Championship in Durban, South Africa.

Technical director Dave Jegede hailed the duo’s achievements, emphasizing their dedication and skill. “This result proves Nigeria’s potential in global karate. Rita and Israel have set the stage for more success,” he said.

Karate Federation of Nigeria President Silas Agara expressed optimism about the country’s future in the sport, citing plans for increased support and international exposure for athletes.

Though Constance Abode (-61kg) and Kingsley Fineface (-67kg) narrowly missed out on bronze, Jegede remains confident in Nigeria’s rising status in karate, driven by the federation’s development initiatives.
