The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has renewed its call to international investors to explore the vast opportunities in Nigeria’s energy sector.

Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC, Bayo Ojulari, made the appeal during an interview with NBC’s Hala Gorani at the Energy Talk segment of the ongoing 2025 Gastech Exhibition & Conference in Milan, Italy.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh.

Ojulari commended President Bola Tinubu’s reforms for creating a more attractive investment climate, describing Nigeria as Africa’s leading destination for energy sector investment.

He emphasized that the new NNPC management remains committed to delivering long-term value to its shareholders.

While noting the influx of gas-based industries such as petrochemicals and methanol plants, Ojulari said more investments are needed in infrastructure to support the federal government’s drive to expand the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in the transportation sector.

He highlighted the country’s abundant energy resources, pointing to underdeveloped crude oil reserves and over 200 idle oil fields that offer significant opportunities to boost production beyond the current 1.7 million barrels per day.

On steps to enhance investor confidence, Ojulari disclosed that NNPC is investing in carbon capture technologies and energy efficiency projects, while also reducing gas flaring in line with commitments to global financing partners.

He added that critical gas infrastructure projects, including the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipeline and the NLNG Train 7 Project, are progressing steadily.

According to him, Nigeria’s energy transition plan is centered on tackling energy poverty, with gas positioned as the key fuel for industrialization and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) promoted as a cleaner cooking alternative for millions of households across Africa.

The Gastech Conference, which attracts more than 50,000 professionals and over 1,000 exhibitors from 150 countries, remains one of the world’s leading platforms for global energy leaders to shape the industry’s future.
