The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin, member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, citing anti-party activities and failure to fulfill financial obligations.
The announcement was made on Saturday by the NNPP State Chairman, Alhaji Hashim Dungurawa, during a press briefing in Kano. He accused Jibrin of persistently attacking the party in the media, showing open loyalty to political rivals of the party’s leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and neglecting to pay his dues.
“Rather than resolving issues internally, he chose to undermine us by aligning himself with those outside our fold. His exit is of no loss to us. He added no value to the party,” Dungurawa declared.
He further disclosed that the party will institute legal action to recover Jibrin’s outstanding financial contributions, stressing that dues are a constitutional requirement for all members.
Responding to speculations that Jibrin’s possible return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) could unsettle the NNPP, Dungurawa dismissed the notion, insisting that the Kwankwasiyya movement remains solidly behind Kwankwaso.
“If he was politically strong, he would have won his election under APC. It was Kwankwasiyya that gave him the platform to reclaim his seat in the House. Now he is deceiving himself,” the chairman said.
Jibrin, a former Director-General of the Bola Tinubu Support Groups Management Council, defected from the APC to the NNPP in 2022 and secured victory in the House of Reps election through the Kwankwasiyya structure.
