Pep Guardiola has declared that Manchester City’s players and staff do not deserve any bonuses from the upcoming Club World Cup, insisting the prize money should go entirely to the club.
City, who have struggled this season, are far off the Premier League title race and were knocked out early in both the Champions League and League Cup.
Their only realistic shot at silverware is the FA Cup, where they face Bournemouth in the quarter-finals.
Despite the Club World Cup offering a lucrative prize pool of up to $125 million for the winners, Guardiola has ruled out taking a share.
“We don’t deserve a bonus this season. If we win, it will go to the club,” he said. “The manager, backroom staff, and players don’t deserve it. Not even a watch!”
City, currently fifth in the league, are fighting for a Champions League spot next season. Guardiola admitted this campaign has been a learning experience.
“You learn in good moments and bad moments,” he said. “Hopefully, the club will learn too.”
The club also remains under scrutiny over alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules, but Guardiola insists the uncertainty is not affecting the team.
“We’ve been dealing with this for over a year. Another few weeks won’t change anything,” he added.
City’s immediate focus remains on Bournemouth, as they aim for a record seventh consecutive FA Cup semi-final.
