Manchester City snatched a dramatic 2-1 win over Aston Villa thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Matheus Nunes, keeping their hopes of Champions League qualification alive.
Nunes netted his first Premier League goal in the fourth minute of added time, sparking wild celebrations from Pep Guardiola, who admitted the rare late winner felt strange for his side.
City had taken an early lead through Bernardo Silva, only for Villa to equalise via a controversial penalty converted by Marcus Rashford. Guardiola was booked after protesting the VAR decision.
But Nunes’s composed finish gave City a vital win, pushing them closer to a top-five finish with four matches remaining.
“We’re not used to scoring late like Liverpool or Arsenal. That’s why I’m so happy,” Guardiola said. “The players were unbelievable. We’re still fighting.”
Villa, now seventh, suffered another setback following their recent European exit. Manager Unai Emery urged his side to regroup ahead of their FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
