The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has condemned the physical assault of one of its members, Edema Elohor Jennifer (AN/24C/0626), in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by its management, the NYSC described the attack as “completely unacceptable” and reaffirmed its strong commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all corps members nationwide.
“The management reiterates its zero tolerance for any actions that threaten the safety of Corps Members and will not stand by while such acts go unpunished,” the statement emphasized.
Expressing deep concern over the incident, the NYSC called for justice and urged both host communities and security agencies to work together to maintain a secure environment for corps members.
The Corps appealed to the general public to support and safeguard corps members in their places of primary assignment and residences.
Initial findings from the NYSC revealed that operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group forcibly entered a Corps Lodge in Oba under the suspicion that it was being used for illegal activities—an allegation the NYSC insists is unverified.
During the raid, corps member Jennifer, who was reportedly only visiting the lodge, was physically assaulted after being ordered to submit to a search.
The incident has been formally reported to the police, and an investigation is currently underway to bring those responsible to justice.
NYSC management reiterated its position against any form of intimidation or harassment directed at corps members and urged host communities to remain vigilant in protecting them as they serve the nation.
