The administration of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has officially dismissed a memo that has been circulating on social media, purportedly outlining a new dress code for students. In a statement released by the university’s registrar, Mr. K.A. Bakare, the institution clarified that while a dress code is indeed under consideration, the details currently circulating do not originate from the university’s authority.

The registrar’s letter, dated today, urged the general public and the university community to disregard the misleading information. “We would like to emphasize that the memo in question is not a sanctioned document from our institution and does not reflect our official stance on student attire,” Mr. Bakare stated.

The university administration is currently in the process of reviewing its dress code policy, aiming to create a guideline that aligns with the institution’s values and promotes a conducive academic environment. However, Mr. Bakare reassured students that any future dress code will be communicated through official channels, ensuring clarity and transparency.

OAU’s management has reiterated its commitment to maintaining an inclusive and respectful academic atmosphere, where students are free to express themselves through their attire within reasonable bounds. The registrar concluded by encouraging students to remain vigilant against misinformation and to rely on official communications from the university regarding policy changes.

As the situation develops, the university remains focused on fostering an environment conducive to academic excellence and student well-being.
