Obidient Movement, El-Rufai Form Alliance Ahead of 2027 Elections

August 21, 2025

Supporters of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, under the Obidient Movement, have met with former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, in a bid to strengthen alliances across political and regional lines ahead of the 2027 elections.

The closed-door meeting, held at El-Rufai’s Abuja residence, was described as part of ongoing strategic engagements aimed at promoting electoral reforms, voter education, and democratic growth.

Confirming the meeting, the National Coordinator of the movement, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, described El-Rufai as a “long-time friend and senior brother” whose views are often misunderstood. He said their discussion centered on shared ideals for building a new Nigeria that prioritizes justice, equity, and good governance.

“No genuine effort at national rebirth can succeed without building bridges across regions, religions, and backgrounds,” Yunusa noted. “Mallam El-Rufai, despite being seen as controversial by some, has shown deep interest in the ideals we represent, and we believe he can add value to our collective mission of rescuing and rebuilding Nigeria.”

As part of the meeting, the Obidient Movement also launched two new voter-mobilization campaigns: “Go Get Your Permanent Voter Card (PVC)” and “GO MEND” (Get Organized – Make Election Rigging Difficult).

According to Yunusa, the initiatives aim to mobilize millions of Nigerians into strong voting blocs ahead of 2027, ensuring transparency and safeguarding the electoral process.

“Together, we can, and together, we will. A new Nigeria is possible,” he affirmed.
