The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Azuta Mbata, has refuted widespread claims that the apex Igbo socio-cultural body has thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

Mbata issued the clarification in response to statements credited to certain individuals parading themselves as leaders of Ohanaeze, who alleged that the organisation had already endorsed Tinubu’s re-election ambition.

Describing the reports as misleading and unfounded, Mbata stressed that Ohanaeze Ndigbo remains a strictly non-partisan socio-cultural organisation and therefore lacks the mandate to back or oppose any political candidate.

“This so-called endorsement is not known to me and certainly not authorised by Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide. Our body is a socio-cultural platform, not a political party, and it has no business endorsing or rejecting anyone for public office,” the President General stated firmly.

He urged Nigerians to ignore the circulating claims, reiterating that there is only one legitimate leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo under his stewardship.
