The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, has disclosed that the company is facing sustained attacks from individuals opposed to its ongoing reforms.

Ojulari made the remark during a meeting with the leadership of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) at the NNPC Towers in Abuja.

In a statement issued after the meeting, he said the resistance is coming from people “who do not mean well for Nigeria” and are determined to frustrate the company’s transformation agenda.

“We are under attack. We will not yield to short-term pressure because it is not in the best interest of Nigerians. You cannot drive change without a price, and transformation is tough,” he stated.

Despite the challenges, the GCEO assured that NNPC management remains focused on national interest and will continue to pursue reforms with resilience. He urged Nigerians to be patient, stressing that the reforms will yield long-term benefits.

Ojulari highlighted the revival of Nigeria’s refineries as a key priority, noting that the company is considering the Incorporated Joint Venture (IJV) model to ensure their sustainability.

“Mr. President does not pressure me to do the wrong thing. We are looking at the baseline to ensure our refineries work sustainably going forward. We don’t want to do a quick fix just because there is pressure on us,” he added.

He commended PENGASSAN for its support, saying the backing of the union strengthens management’s resolve to stay the course.

“I am overwhelmed with the support from the union executives present here. The enemies of this company and Nigerians will not win,” Ojulari said.

Earlier, PENGASSAN President, Comrade Festus Osifo, pledged the union’s solidarity with NNPC management, citing progress already recorded under Ojulari’s leadership.

“Our pipelines are now working, and crude oil theft has significantly reduced, leading to increased production. As PENGASSAN, we assure you of our collaboration to ensure stability in the system for the benefit of all Nigerians,” Osifo said.

The union also commended Ojulari’s team for milestones achieved since he assumed office about five months ago, including improvements in security and production.
