Osimhen, Adams Fire Nigeria Past Algeria Into AFCON Semi-Finals

Nigeria booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a
commanding 2-0 victory over Algeria, with goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams sealing
a deserved win in Marrakech.
The Super Eagles set the tone early, pressing aggressively and pinning Algeria back for long
spells.
Ademola Lookman was heavily involved in the opening exchanges, testing Luca Zidane and
later seeing a through ball to Osimhen cut out by a last-ditch Rayan Aït-Nouri challenge.
Nigeria’s dominance was underlined before the break when Calvin Bassey’s clever finish from a
free-kick was hacked off the line, while Algeria failed to register a single shot on target in the
first half.
The breakthrough arrived soon after the restart as Osimhen rose to meet Bruno Onyemaechi’s
precise delivery, heading home his 35th international goal to put Nigeria ahead.
Algeria barely had time to regroup before the Super Eagles struck again. Alex Iwobi picked out
Osimhen in space, and the striker squared unselfishly for Akor Adams to apply a calm finish and
double the lead.
That goal effectively ended the contest, with Nigeria maintaining control and limiting Algeria to
no efforts on target throughout the match.
Adams’ strike marked his third goal across the knockout rounds, further highlighting Nigeria’s
attacking depth.
The victory keeps Nigeria firmly on course for a fourth AFCON title and sets up a semi-final
showdown against hosts Morocco, who edged Cameroon in their quarter-final.
