Galatasaray’s impressive unbeaten streak came to an end in Amsterdam as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Ajax in their final Europa League group match, despite Victor Osimhen’s goal.
The Turkish giants had been one of the few teams yet to lose in Europe’s top leagues this season and aimed to extend that record at the Johan Cruijff Arena. Osimhen, continuing his fine form, started alongside Dries Mertens in attack.
Despite controlling much of the first half, Galatasaray were punished in the 23rd minute when Bertrand Traore put Ajax ahead, assisted by Chuba Akpom.
The Dutch side doubled their advantage in the second half through Kian Fitz-Jim, leaving the visitors chasing the game.
Osimhen eventually pulled one back in stoppage time, finishing from close range after a rebound.
However, Galatasaray’s wastefulness in front of goal proved costly, as they managed just one goal from 26 attempts.
