Tope Omolayo, the suspended Chairman of the Owo Local Government Area in Ondo State, has been officially declared unwelcome by the traditional leaders of the historic Owo Kingdom.
High Chief Ademola Obanoyen, representing the Olowo-in-Council, issued a statement asserting that Omolayo’s role as council leader is no longer tenable, emphasizing that the community will not tolerate any disrespect towards its traditional authority.
Omolayo’s suspension came weeks ago from the legislative council amid serious allegations of misconduct, including making disparaging remarks about the monarch, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Gbadegesin Ogunoye, which were captured in a widely circulated video.
Obanoyen denounced the chairman’s behavior as “utter sacrilege and crass contempt” towards the revered Olowo, signaling the town’s complete disassociation from Omolayo.
The Olowo-in-Council has urged the state government to take appropriate steps to preserve peace and respect within the community, while encouraging residents to remain calm and uphold the law.
Additionally, the statement underscored the significance of maintaining traditional institutions, warning that disrespect towards the Olowo reflects a broader disrespect for the entire Yoruba traditional system.
