Elche’s winless run stretched to five matches after Mikel Oyarzabal’s late penalty earned Real Sociedad a 1-1 draw at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero.
Alvaro Rodriguez fired the hosts ahead midway through the second half with a thumping finish after Alvaro Nunez’s cross, as Elche looked on course to maintain their perfect home record since promotion.
But with two minutes left, Umar Sadiq was brought down by David Affengruber, allowing Oyarzabal to equalise from the spot and deny Eder Sarabia’s side a much-needed win.
The result ends Sociedad’s six-match winning streak against Elche and keeps the Basque club winless away from home this season.
Elche stay unbeaten at home but have now gone five games without victory, while Sociedad remain within reach of the European places.
