Valentine Ozigbo, a leading aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in Anambra State has filed a lawsuit seeking the nullification of the party’s April 5, 2025 governorship primary. The suit was lodged at the Federal High Court in Awka on April 16, naming the APC, Nicholas Ukachukwu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants.

Ukachukwu was declared winner of the primary with 1,455 votes while Ozigbo polled 67 votes. Other contenders, Johnbosco Onunkwo and Edozie Madu scored 26 and 8 votes respectively. Referencing irregularities including alleged use of unauthorized delegate lists, exclusion of valid party members and acts of violence, Ozigbo insists the exercise was fraudulent.

The legal challenge, filed by Senior Advocates of Nigeria Umeh Kalu and B.C. Igwilo includes evidence from the party’s constitution and internal communications. Ozigbo, calling the primary a “well-scripted illusion,” emphasized that his action aims to restore the party’s integrity rather than destabilize it. The court has yet to fix a hearing date.
