Parma have named Cristian Chivu as their new manager, marking the Romanian’s first senior coaching role. The 44-year-old replaces Fabio Pecchia, who was dismissed on Monday following a fourth consecutive defeat that left the club in the Serie A relegation zone.
Chivu, who previously coached youth teams at Inter Milan from 2018 to 2024, will be joined by his staff, including assistant manager Antonio Gagliardi, technical assistant Angelo Palombo, and goalkeeper coach Nicola Pavarini. “Chivu, alongside his staff, will begin training with the team this afternoon at the Mutti Training Center,” the club confirmed in a statement.
Pecchia, who had been in charge since 2022, guided Parma to Serie A promotion last season but struggled to maintain their top-flight status. The team currently sits 18th in the league with 20 points from 25 matches, just one point behind 17th-placed Empoli.
Chivu’s first test as Parma boss will come on Sunday when they host Bologna, as he looks to steer the club away from the relegation zone.
