PDP Governors Predict APC’s Defeat In 2027, Vow To Safeguard National Convention

August 25, 2025

The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) has described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party without vision or direction, predicting that it will suffer inevitable rejection by Nigerians in the 2027 general elections.

The Forum, chaired by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, made this declaration in a communiqué issued on Saturday at the end of its 7th meeting of 2025, held in Gusau, Zamfara State.

The governors urged members to resist attempts by anti-party elements to disrupt the PDP National Convention scheduled for 15 November 2025 in Ibadan, Oyo State. They stressed that unity and vigilance would be crucial to the success of the convention, which they described as a decisive step towards repositioning the PDP as the only credible alternative to the APC.

The meeting deliberated on issues of national concern, including insecurity, democratic governance, and preparations for the forthcoming convention.

The Forum commended PDP members and supporters nationwide for their steadfast loyalty despite alleged intimidation and anti-democratic practices by the APC-led Federal Government.

“We salute the resilience of our leaders and members in overcoming orchestrated defections. Such distractions cannot weaken the PDP’s strong grassroots presence or dampen the public’s growing desire for the return of affordable living and the relative security experienced under past PDP governments,” the communiqué read.

The governors also urged members and supporters to remain resolute in the face of what they described as increasing harassment from the ruling party.

“This unfortunate reality only reflects the desperation of a party without vision or agenda, destined for certain rejection by the masses,” the Forum stated.

Reaffirming their commitment to the resolutions of the PDP’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in July 2025, the governors insisted that the November convention must hold as planned.

“We call on members to resist all manoeuvres by anti-party forces to derail the 15 November National Convention. The PDP remains the only democratic institution and viable platform capable of returning Nigeria to the path of good governance and sustainable development,” the communiqué emphasised.

The Forum further condemned the alleged over-militarisation, irregularities, and violence that characterised the 9 August 2025 by-election, describing it as evidence of the APC’s anti-democratic disposition.

“We urge Nigerians to be vigilant in safeguarding their votes,” it added.

On security, the governors commended the Zamfara State Government for efforts in tackling insecurity but expressed concern over continuing violence in Katsina, Plateau, Niger, and Benue States.

“We call on the Federal Government to show greater commitment to protecting the lives and property of citizens,” the Forum said, stressing the urgency of addressing the worsening security crisis.

The governors also thanked the government and people of Zamfara State for their hospitality and congratulated Governor Dauda Lawal on his achievements in infrastructure, health, education, social services, and security.

They further extended condolences to the people of Zamfara State on the passing of the Emir of Gusau, as well as to the people of Oyo State over the recent loss of traditional rulers.
