Peter Obi Cancels Weekend Engagements, Takes Short Medical Break

September 7, 2025

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, has announced a temporary suspension of his engagements after being advised by doctors to observe a brief medical rest.

Obi disclosed this on Saturday through a post on his official X handle, explaining that he fell ill while attending a tourism event in Enugu on Friday.

“Yesterday in Enugu, I wasn’t feeling well and had to visit the hospital. The doctor prescribed medication and advised me to rest for one or two days. In line with that advice, I will not be able to attend my scheduled events this weekend,” he wrote, apologising for any inconvenience caused.

Despite the health setback, Obi still made time to visit the Good Hope Specialist Hospital in Isulo, Orumba South LGA of Anambra State, where he donated ₦10 million to support its rehabilitation and expansion by the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria.

He commended the diocese for its vision of transforming the hospital into a comprehensive health facility with a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology.

“Investing in healthcare remains one of the most impactful things we can do. Together, we can build a healthier nation,” Obi stated.
