Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 Nigerian elections, visited Atiku Abubakar, his counterpart from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at Atiku’s residence in Adamawa State on Saturday November 30, 2024.
Atiku confirmed the visit in a tweet, stating, “It is breakfast time with my friend, @PeterObi, in the ‘land of beauty.’ -AA.” The tweet, which included no details of their discussion, has sparked widespread speculation about the purpose of the meeting. While some observers speculate that the meeting is a step toward forming an alliance for the 2027 presidential election, aimed at challenging the incumbent APC-led government under the Tinubu administration, others, however, believe it may simply be a cordial visit between two political figures.
Both Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi were prominent contenders in the February 2023 elections, which drew significant national and international attention. The meeting has without doubt reignited conversations about potential alliances, political reconciliation, or collaboration between the two influential politicians.
As of now, neither Obi nor Atiku has disclosed the agenda or outcomes of their interaction. However, political analysts suggest the meeting could have far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s political landscape.
