The Ogun State Police Command has arraigned the driver of the Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle involved in the fatal accident that claimed the lives of two close friends of British boxer Anthony Joshua. The case has, however, been adjourned until January 20, 2026, for further proceedings, Saturday PUNCH reports.
The driver, identified as 46 year old Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, was on Friday charged before a Magistrate Court in Sagamu, according to the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.
In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Friday, Babaseyi confirmed that the court adjourned the matter to January 20, 2026, to enable further proceedings.
The arraignment came two days after the Ogun State Police Command confirmed Kayode’s arrest over the crash, which occurred on December 29, 2025, near Danco along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway.
The accident claimed the lives of Kevin Latif Ayodele, 36, a British-Nigerian citizen, and Sina Ghami, 36, a British citizen, both colleagues and training staff of the former world heavyweight boxing champion.
Adeniyi, a long-standing member of Joshua’s Nigerian logistics team, was discharged from a hospital in Lagos late on New Year’s Eve after receiving treatment for minor injuries. He was then driven to Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital where the crash occurred, for questioning at the state police headquarters.
Police sources earlier revealed that Adeniyi was allegedly driving well above the 65mph speed limit on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when he lost control after a tyre burst during an overtaking manoeuvre.
Sources reveal that Adeniyi is expected to be charged with reckless driving.
