Police Invite El-Rufai, ADC Leaders Over Alleged Conspiracy, Public Disturbance

September 5, 2025

The Kaduna State Police Command has invited former governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and top leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for questioning over allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement, mischief, and causing grievous harm.

A police letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Uzainu Abdullahi, directed the ADC chairman in the state to produce El-Rufai and six other party members before investigators on September 8.

Those expected to appear at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) include Bashir Sa’idu, Jafaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed (popularly called “30”), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (also known as “Mikiya”).

The letter, titled Investigation Activities: Case of Criminal Conspiracy, Inciting Disturbance of Public Peace, Mischief and Causing Grievous Hurt, said the invitation was to enable the police clarify complaints lodged against the political figures.

Part of the correspondence read:

“This Department is currently investigating the above-mentioned case involving the following members of your party. You are requested to come along with them to SCID to clarify allegations reported against them by the complainants on 8th September, 2025.”

Meanwhile, security operatives on Thursday sealed off the ADC office located at No. 4 Ali Akilu Road, Kaduna, just hours before the North-West leadership of the party was scheduled to visit the state chapter on a condolence mission.

Eyewitnesses reported that several police patrol vans surrounded the premises, effectively preventing access. The ADC leaders from the North-West were expected in Kaduna to sympathise with members allegedly attacked by political thugs last week.

It would be recalled that armed thugs had stormed a joint meeting of the ADC and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna, reportedly under the leadership of El-Rufai.

The incident, which took place at the NUT Endwell Conference Hall in Magadishu Layout, left several members injured and vehicles, including El-Rufai’s vandalised. Windows at the meeting venue were also smashed.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the attack happened in full view of policemen earlier deployed to disrupt the meeting, while the state government was said to have pressured event centres to cancel earlier bookings by the opposition coalition.

The development has been linked to the growing political rivalry between El-Rufai and Governor Uba Sani, his former political ally.

In a related move, an ADC chieftain in the state, Yusuf Shehu Bello, has dragged the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police before the Federal High Court in Kaduna. Bello is seeking an injunction restraining the police from “suspending, disrupting or interfering” with political gatherings across the state.
