Popular Comic Actor Okemesi in Coma After Drug Complications, Colleagues Seek Prayers and Support
Popular comic actor, Bamidele Tope Saint, widely known as Okemesi, is currently in a coma following complications linked to medication administered during a recent hospital treatment.
The development was disclosed by fellow actor, Jeff Owolewa, via Instagram, where he revealed that Okemesi’s condition worsened shortly after he was discharged from the hospital last week.
According to Owolewa, the actor experienced severe adverse reactions to the drugs prescribed at discharge, leading to loss of appetite and prolonged sleep over the weekend. Concerned about his deteriorating state, he said he rushed to Okemesi’s residence early Monday morning and attempted to secure medical care.
He further alleged that several hospitals, including a government facility in Igodo, initially declined to admit the actor due to a lack of bed space before he was eventually taken back to the private hospital that had begun his treatment.
Owolewa explained that doctors have since stabilised Okemesi and placed him on oxygen support, noting that his breathing is gradually improving despite his unconscious state.
“Okemesi has been hospitalised again. He was sleeping all through Saturday and Sunday without having much appetite for food due to complications from the drugs that were given to him when he was discharged last week,” he said.
He added that the actor has been in a coma since Monday morning but showed slight improvement in breathing after being placed on oxygen.
Okemesi, who recently moved into a new apartment provided through public donations following a fundraising appeal to support his health challenges and past struggles with homelessness, is now receiving intensive care.
Owolewa has appealed to Nigerians for prayers and financial assistance to help cover the rising cost of the actor’s medical treatment, expressing hope that he will recover and return to full health.
