Potter Reflects on Chelsea Exit: ‘It Was the Best Thing That Happened to Me’

February 2, 2025

West Ham manager, Graham Potter has opened up about his departure from Chelsea, calling his sacking “maybe the best thing that happened to me” despite the challenges it brought.

Potter, who took over the Hammers in January 2024, will return to Stamford Bridge on Monday for his fourth Premier League match in charge. Reflecting on his brief tenure at Chelsea, the 49-year-old said he held no ill will towards the club and saw his exit as a valuable learning experience.

“Football life is full of ups and downs,” Potter explained. “I didn’t want to lose my job, but looking back, it was probably the best thing for me. The next 10-20 years could be great because of what I learned.”

Potter, who led Chelsea for less than seven months, remains focused on his new chapter with West Ham, emphasizing the excitement and positive connections he’s building at the club.
