Nigerian striker Rafiu Durosinmi is attracting serious attention as the January transfer period approaches, with Hull City and Derby County both positioning themselves for a potential move.

The two Championship sides have been keeping tabs on the 22-year-old as they prepare to strengthen their squads mid-season. Derby head into the break riding the momentum of five straight victories that have pushed them into the top half of the table, while Hull remain firmly in the play-off mix after an impressive start to the campaign.

Both clubs carried out major squad overhauls during the summer, and further additions are expected once the window opens. Durosinmi has now emerged as a shared target, with other English clubs — including Oxford United and Huddersfield Town — also weighing up an approach.

With his current deal at Viktoria Plzen winding down and only months left on his contract, the forward could be snapped up for a significantly reduced fee. A bid in the region of £5.7m is believed to be enough to bring him over to England.

Durosinmi’s journey began at Box2Box FC in Nigeria before a brief spell at MFK Karvina in Slovakia. His switch to Plzen in 2022 proved transformative, as he quickly became one of the standout attackers in the Czech league. However, his rise was halted by back-to-back ACL injuries in 2023 and 2024, which sidelined him for over a year.

Despite those setbacks, he has returned in explosive form this season, registering 11 goals in 24 matches — with strikes in both the Champions League and Europa League. In total, he has racked up 33 goals and 10 assists for Plzen, adding to the 16 goal contributions he produced during his time with Karvina.

Hull and Derby have already crossed paths in the transfer rumour mill recently, having been linked with the same young forward earlier this month. Their renewed pursuit of Durosinmi underscores a priority for more firepower as both teams aim to stay competitive in the promotion race.

Hull are thought to be eyeing a long-term successor in attack as their veteran options age, while Derby’s interest reflects their desire to add even more depth to an already lively frontline. The next few weeks will determine which club takes the first step — and whether Durosinmi finally makes the switch to English football.
