President Tinubu Felicitates with Reuben Abati at Sixty

President Bola Tinubu extended his warm congratulations to Reuben Abati, a distinguished journalist and former presidential adviser, on the occasion of his 60th birthday. In his statement, the President recognized Abati as a prominent public intellectual and a dedicated commentator who has significantly impacted Nigeria’s media landscape and public dialogue.

In a personally signed message released on Friday, Tinubu praised Abati, affectionately known as “Rubi Rubi,” for his exceptional versatility and accomplishments across various domains.

“Dr. Abati is a remarkable figure—a public intellectual, author, columnist, law graduate, and broadcaster—who has excelled in every role he has undertaken: as a student and later as a Graduate Assistant at the university, as the Chairman of the Editorial Board at The Guardian, as a writer, and currently as a television presenter,” Tinubu stated.

He highlighted Abati’s thought-provoking articles, timely interventions, and television commentary, which continue to inform and motivate audiences. “I commend Dr. Abati for his commitment to Nigeria during his tenure as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to former President Goodluck Jonathan, as well as his significant contributions to journalism,” he added.

The President also acknowledged Abati’s creativity and diverse experiences, which have enhanced discussions on matters of public interest.

Moreover, Tinubu celebrated the release of Abati’s three new books—“Portraits: People, Politics and Society,” “A Love Letter and Other Stories,” and “How Goodluck Jonathan Became President”—launched in honor of his milestone birthday.

“I join the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), family, and friends in honoring this esteemed writer. I pray that God grants him longevity, good health, and the inspiration to continue his service to the nation and humanity,” the statement concluded.

Reuben Abati, born on November 7, 1965, is recognized as a prominent newspaper columnist and television host on Arise TV. He was also the Deputy Governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State during the 2019 elections. He holds a degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Calabar and serves as a senior research associate at the Olusegun Obasanjo Centre for Cultural Studies and the National Open University of Nigeria.
