Minister of State for Defence highlights federal government’s commitment to peace and stability

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a directive for the total eradication of banditry in the Northwest and other forms of insecurity across the nation by 2025, according to the Minister of State for Defence, Alhaji Bello Mohammed Matawalle.

Speaking during a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwarts in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, Matawalle reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to restoring lasting peace to troubled communities.

The minister disclosed that President Tinubu has authorized the deployment of additional troops and advanced military equipment to areas plagued by insecurity. He noted that the purchase of key military assets, including Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) and fighter jets, has already been approved, with some of the equipment arriving for immediate use.

“These measures demonstrate the federal government’s unwavering determination to eliminate banditry and other security challenges, particularly in communities most affected by these issues,” Matawalle stated.

He also emphasized that activities of informants remain a major obstacle to security efforts, urging residents of Zamfara and other affected states to work collaboratively with security agencies.

“We need to separate politics from security issues. Everyone must contribute their quota to address this menace. People should share accurate and vital information with security agencies to achieve our collective goal of peace and stability,” Matawalle urged.

The minister further cautioned citizens against being misled by misinformation about federal government policies and programs, urging them to support ongoing efforts to combat insecurity.

In addition to security measures, Matawalle announced a donation of ₦200 million to the Zamfara State chapter of the APC. He assured the public that arrangements are in place to provide support to ease the hardship faced by residents.

The minister’s visit was met with an overwhelming reception from thousands of APC supporters in Gusau. His residence was thronged by party faithful, including elders, youths, women, and other key stakeholders.

This directive from President Tinubu and the proactive measures announced by the Minister of State for Defence underscore the federal government’s resolve to address security challenges decisively, providing hope for the restoration of peace and normalcy across the country.
