Paris Saint-Germain made history by becoming the first French club to win a global title after defeating Flamengo on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final in Qatar.

PSG took the lead through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia before Flamengo hit back from the spot via Jorginho after VAR ruled Marquinhos had fouled Giorgian de Arrascaeta.

With extra time producing no winner, goalkeeper Matvei Safonov starred in the shootout, making multiple saves as PSG edged it 2-1 on penalties.

The victory sealed PSG’s sixth trophy of 2025 and their first-ever global crown, while Flamengo were left to reflect on another missed chance to add to their lone Intercontinental title from 1981.
