Liverpool’s hopes of completing a flawless UEFA Champions League league phase ended as PSV Eindhoven claimed a thrilling 3-2 victory at the Philips Stadion.
Despite fielding a heavily rotated squad, the Reds took the lead midway through the first half when Cody Gakpo converted a penalty after Joey Veerman’s error.
PSV responded quickly, with Johan Bakayoko leveling the score before Harvey Elliott restored Liverpool’s advantage.
However, the hosts turned the game around before halftime with two quick goals—Ismael Saibari’s powerful strike and Ricardo Pepi’s slight touch on a deflected cross sealed the comeback.
With both teams already assured of progression, the second half saw fewer chances, though Liverpool’s night worsened when debutant Amara Nallo was sent off late on.
Despite the loss, Liverpool finished top of the group, while PSV secured a spot in the knockout play-offs.
