Egyptian club Pyramids have won their first CAF Champions League title, defeating Mamelodi Sundowns 2–1 in Cairo to secure a 3–2 aggregate triumph and complete their remarkable rise in African football.

With the first leg in Pretoria ending 1–1, Pyramids took charge at home through Fiston Mayele’s close-range finish in the 23rd minute, his ninth goal of the tournament.

Ahmed Samy doubled the lead just before the hour mark with a diving header confirmed after a lengthy VAR review, giving the hosts a 3–1 cushion on aggregate.

Sundowns gave themselves a lifeline when Iqraam Rayners volleyed in with 15 minutes to go, but Pyramids held firm through 10 tense minutes of stoppage time at the 30 June Stadium.
