Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna has reclaimed his spot as Africa’s top-ranked table tennis player, surpassing Egypt’s Omar Assar to move up to 18th in the latest ITTF world rankings.
Despite finishing as runner-up at the 2025 ITTF Africa Cup, Aruna’s strong performances at WTT tournaments this year have significantly boosted his ranking.
He remains the only African male player to reach the semifinals of the WTT Contender Doha, repeating his 2023 feat earlier this year.
His rise sees him move from 19th to 18th in the latest rankings, while Assar, who won the 2025 ITTF Africa Cup, dropped from 17th to 19th, with Denmark’s Jonathan Groth taking over the 17th spot.
Egypt’s Mohamed El-Beiali also saw an improvement, climbing to 45th despite a quarterfinal exit at the Africa Cup, making him the third-best-ranked African player.
Egyptian Women Continue to Dominate African Rankings
In the women’s singles rankings, Egypt’s Hana Goda retained her position as Africa’s highest-ranked female player, moving up one spot to 26th. Her compatriot, Dina Meshref, remained steady at 33rd as the continent’s second-best player.
Global Rankings Update
China continues to dominate the global rankings, with Lin Shidong and Wang Chuqin holding the top two spots. Japan’s Tomokazu Harimoto moved up to third, overtaking China’s Liang Jingkun after his semifinal finish in Chongqing.
Meanwhile, the women’s top five remained unchanged, with China’s Sun Yingsha solidifying her No. 1 status after winning the WTT Champions Chongqing title.
