Marcus Rashford says he would be happy to remain at Barcelona beyond his current loan from Manchester United, describing life in Spain as “an honour” and hinting that a permanent move could be on the cards.

Barcelona hold an option to sign the England forward for £28 million next summer, significantly less than the £40 million United would demand from any other club.

Although Rashford’s contract at Old Trafford runs until 2028, his future under current manager Ruben Amorim appears uncertain.

“For sure,” Rashford told ESPN when asked if he wanted to stay. “I’m enjoying this football club, and for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game. For a player, it’s an honour.”

The 27-year-old has rediscovered his spark in Spain, scoring five goals in 12 games so far, including a brace in Tuesday’s Champions League win over Olympiakos.

His resurgence follows a productive loan spell at Aston Villa last season under Unai Emery.

Set to feature in his first El Clasico this weekend, Rashford reflected on how the change of environment has helped him find joy again in football.

“People forget this, but 23 years of my life was with Manchester United,” he said. “Sometimes you just need a change, maybe that’s the case with me, and I’m enjoying everything.”
