Real Madrid booked their place in the FIFA Club World Cup knockout stage as group winners with a 3-0 win over Red Bull Salzburg, recording back-to-back victories under Xabi Alonso for the first time and extending their unbeaten run to six matches in all competitions.
Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham combined to open the scoring five minutes before half-time, with Vinicius cutting inside to finish into the bottom corner.
Moments later, Vinicius turned provider, backheeling for Federico Valverde to net Madrid’s second.
Salzburg offered little threat, managing just one shot on target in the first half, comfortably saved by Thibaut Courtois.
The Austrians improved after the break but could not find a way through, with Bellingham clearing a Samson Baidoo effort off the line.
Madrid sealed the win late on when Gonzalo Garcia chipped home a composed finish to end Salzburg’s four-game unbeaten run and send Los Blancos into the last-16.
