Real Madrid have officially announced that Carlo Ancelotti will step down as head coach after their final La Liga fixture against Real Sociedad on Saturday.
The 65-year-old Italian, who won 15 trophies across two spells at the Bernabeu, will become Brazil’s national team manager on May 26, a move previously confirmed by the Brazilian Football Federation.
Ancelotti’s glittering legacy in Madrid includes three UEFA Champions League titles, two La Liga crowns, and two Copa del Rey victories, making him the most decorated manager in the club’s 123-year history.
Real’s statement praised the veteran tactician as “one of the great legends of Real Madrid and world football.”
President Florentino Perez added: “Carlo Ancelotti will forever be part of the great Madridista family. We’ve been privileged to witness his success and his embodiment of our values.”
Ancelotti’s exit paves the way for Xabi Alonso, who last week confirmed his intention to leave Bayer Leverkusen.
The Spaniard is widely expected to return to the Bernabeu as manager on June 1, in time for the FIFA Club World Cup.
In a heartfelt farewell, Ancelotti shared: “These have been unforgettable years… a journey full of emotions, titles, and pride. My bond with Real Madrid is eternal. See you soon, Madridistas.”
He now takes charge of a Brazil side in turmoil, still reeling from a 4–1 defeat to Argentina in March that left them fourth in World Cup qualifying.
