Today marks the first anniversary of the passing of Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, the former governor of Ondo State, who left an indelible mark on the lives of many during his tenure and beyond. Akeredolu, who served as governor from February 2017 until his death in 2023, was not only a prominent political figure but also a respected lawyer and advocate for the rights and development of his people.

Arakunrin Akeredolu as he was popularly referred to as governor of Ondo State was Born on July 21, 1956, in Owo, Ondo State, Akeredolu’s journey began with a solid educational foundation. He studied law at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and went on to build a successful career in law, becoming a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, a title equivalent to that of a Queen’s Counsel in the UK. His legal acumen and dedication to justice were evident throughout his career, where he fought for the rights of the marginalized and worked tirelessly to uphold the rule of law.

Akeredolu’s entry into politics was marked by his commitment to reform and development. As a member of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), he campaigned on a platform of progress, promising to transform Ondo State into a beacon of development and prosperity. Upon his election as governor, he initiated numerous projects aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare, and education. His administration focused on enhancing the agricultural sector, promoting tourism, and ensuring that the state harnessed its abundant natural resources for the benefit of its citizens. One of Akeredolu’s significant achievements was his approach to security in the region.
