In a thrilling conclusion, substitute Olamilekan Adedayo emerged as the key player for Remo Stars, scoring a crucial late goal in their 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes. This win clinched the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League title for Remo with three matches left in the season.

The match started energetically, with Alex Oyowah coming close to scoring within the first five minutes, only for his header to be disallowed for offside. Following this setback, Remo’s urgency diminished, leading to a more controlled but less threatening game against their opponents.

In the second half, Daniel Ogunmodede’s team displayed greater urgency, yet they encountered dogged resistance from Tornadoes, who made two crucial goal-line clearances early on. A significant moment came in the 61st minute when goalkeeper Enaholo made a remarkable save against a header from Sikiru Alimi, followed by Oyowah hitting the crossbar with a follow-up shot.

Just five minutes later, Oyowah’s header from a Sodiq Ismail cross was saved by Enaholo, and he narrowly missed scoring again in the 75th minute after a quick one-two with Kudus Akanni.

As the match approached the 79th minute, Ogunmodede made a strategic move by introducing Adedayo and Samson Olasupo to the field, aiming to break through Tornadoes’ defense. This substitution proved effective, as Adedayo quickly made his mark, unleashing a powerful shot that struck the underside of the crossbar, crossed the goal line, and ignited celebrations for Remo’s historic NPFL title victory.

With this victory, Remo secured their 21st win of the season, accumulating 69 points and establishing an unassailable 10-point lead over Rivers United in second place, with three games remaining. Meanwhile, Niger Tornadoes remained two spots above the relegation zone with 44 points, only two points clear of Heartland in 17th place.

In similar development, President Bola  Tinubu has congratulated Remo Stars Football Club for clinching the 2024-2025 Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) title, marking a historic milestone for Ikenne and Ogun State.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the victory-achieved just four years after the club’s promotion to the top flight-as a testament to the “hard work, discipline, and unyielding spirit” of the players, coaching staff, and management.
