Italy striker Mateo Retegui has completed a move to Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah from Atalanta, both clubs confirmed on Monday.

The 26-year-old, who was Serie A’s top scorer last season with 25 goals, is reported to have signed a four-year contract.

While financial terms were not disclosed, Italian media claim the transfer fee is around €65 million, making him the most expensive Italian player ever.

Retegui spent just one season at Atalanta after arriving from Genoa, filling in for the injured Gianluca Scamacca. His goals helped the club to a third-place finish in Serie A.

Atalanta thanked Retegui in a farewell statement, calling his impact “extraordinary.”

Born in Argentina, Retegui qualified for Italy through his grandparents and made his debut in 2023 under Roberto Mancini. He has scored six goals in 20 appearances for the national team.

His arrival comes shortly after Gabon forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang departed Al Qadsiah, having netted 21 goals in 36 games last season.
