Former Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has ruled out the possibility of aligning with the political structure of President Bola Tinubu in his bid to govern the state.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Rhodes-Vivour said joining Tinubu’s style of politics would amount to “a complete waste of time.”

He insisted that his mission in politics is to restore Lagos to its “old glory” and ensure the state’s commonwealth is maximized for the benefit of its people.

“The reason why we are in politics is to make the lives of Lagosians better. Any party that will not allow me to achieve that is a complete waste of time,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has rejected claims by Rhodes-Vivour that the Force was colluding with All Progressives Congress (APC) thugs to impose a one-party state in Lagos.

He had made the allegations during a live interview on Arise TV’s Morning Show on September 7, 2025.

In a statement signed by Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bababeyi Oluseyi, the Command described the politician’s remarks as “unfounded and mischievous,” stressing that the police remain non-partisan and focused on maintaining law and order.

The statement explained that APC in Alimosho Constituency had duly informed the police of its sensitisation exercise on Continuous Voter Registration, held peacefully at Lion Field, Iyana-Ipaja, on September 6, with officers deployed to provide security. It noted that no such request for protection was received from Rhodes-Vivour.

Police records further showed that the only disturbance occurred at the Christ Gospel Mission International Campground, where a political rally was allegedly staged during a prayer program. The Commissioner of Police reportedly intervened in person to restore order, describing the intrusion as “sacrilegious” and potentially dangerous.

The Command also dismissed as false Rhodes-Vivour’s claims that a Deputy Commissioner acted as a gateman during the incident and that coaster buses were vandalized, noting that no formal complaint of damage or injury had been lodged at any police formation.

“The Lagos State Police Command will continue to remain neutral, apolitical, and firm in the enforcement of law and order, while resisting attempts to drag the Force into partisan politics,” the statement added.
