Thomas Frank’s first Premier League outing as Tottenham boss ended in style as Richarlison struck twice in a 3–0 win over Burnley that showcased flair, control, and early promise for the new era in north London.

The Brazilian opened the scoring on 10 minutes, turning in Mohammed Kudus’ clever play, before delivering the highlight of the afternoon with a spectacular scissor-kick finish after a sweeping 17-pass move that involved every Spurs player.

His part in the build-up to Brennan Johnson’s clinical third capped a commanding display and earned him a rousing ovation when he was substituted.

“For the second goal we had 17 passes and every player in the team touched the ball, then an exceptional finish,” Frank said. “I’m a bit disappointed as so early on we’ve had the goal of the season,” he joked, reflecting on the quality of Richarlison’s strike.

The manager praised his striker’s resilience after an injury-ravaged season. “The medical team have done a top job to build him and that’s something we need to do throughout the season,” Frank added.

“He was very good against PSG in midweek and again today with his work-rate, hold-up play, and the two finishes. The first signs are good.”

Richarlison, signed for £60m three years ago, endured a difficult 2023–24, but Frank’s admiration for him is clear.

“I’ve always liked Richarlison when he was at Everton. When he came to Tottenham he struggled with injuries, so we’re aware we need to protect and build him.”

The victory provided a bright contrast to the turbulence of last season, when Spurs’ Europa League triumph under Ange Postecoglou was overshadowed by a dismal league finish and heavy fan unrest.

A handful of protests against chairman Daniel Levy resurfaced on Saturday, but the football on display softened the edges of discontent.

Summing up the day, Frank said: “It was a perfect start, our dream start, but we all know we need to follow on it. Today I will just enjoy it, and I hope the players, the club and the fans enjoyed it.”

New signing Kudus impressed again, Joao Palhinha awaits his chance to settle, and the club continue to push for attacking reinforcements, with talks advancing for Eberechi Eze.

For now, though, Tottenham’s new manager has every reason to savour a winning start built on goals, balance, and belief.
