The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) says its membership has surged to over 800,000 in recent months.

Speaking at a weekend press conference in Port Harcourt, the party’s spokesperson, Luckyman Egila, announced that prominent politicians, including two former governors and several federal lawmakers, have joined the ADC.

According to Egila, the Rivers chapter of the ADC “is a beautiful bride,” adding that the party has been “receiving key politicians into its fold” in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

He named former governors Rotimi Amaechi and Celestine Omehia as new members, alongside Prince Uche Secondus, a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“These persons have left their former parties, and they are now full members of the ADC,” Egila said. “And you can only become a member of a party when you have registered with that party and issued it with a membership card. So all of them are now full members of the ADC.”

Egila also listed former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Austin Okpara, and former Minister of Transport, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, as part of the ADC’s growing membership in Rivers State.
