Rivers United suffered a brutal setback in their CAF Champions League campaign on Friday night, conceding twice in added time to fall 2–1 to RS Berkane in Uyo.

Finidi George’s side looked on course for their first group-stage win after a strong response to Berkane’s early pressure.

Their reward arrived shortly before the interval when Zachariah’s delivery spun off Mamadou Lamine Camara and wrong-footed goalkeeper Munir, sending the home fans into celebration.

Rivers carried that advantage well into the second half and even had chances to stretch it, only for substitute Taoofeek to miss two promising openings that would later prove costly.

With seven minutes added, Rivers tried to see out the result, but Berkane punished their hesitation.

Youness El Kaabi pounced on a loose ball from a set piece to level the match, sparking panic inside the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Moments later, deeper into stoppage time, goalkeeper Onisodumeya’s attempted clearance ricocheted off a Berkane player, the follow-up struck the post, and Mounir Chouiar tucked away the rebound to complete a stunning turnaround.

The defeat leaves Rivers bottom of Group A after two matches, while Berkane remain in control at the top.

Finidi’s men now head to Zambia to face Power Dynamos on Matchday 3, a trip that already feels decisive for their hopes of staying alive in the competition.
