Ronaldo brace leads Portugal to 5-0 rout in Yerevan

September 7, 2025

Cristiano Ronaldo struck twice as Portugal opened their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a dominant 5-0 victory over Armenia in Yerevan.

João Félix put the visitors ahead inside 10 minutes, heading home João Cancelo’s cross, before Ronaldo doubled the lead from close range.

Cancelo then smashed in a third before celebrating with a tribute to the late Diogo Jota.

Ronaldo added his second less than a minute after the restart, unleashing a fierce long-range effort to underline his enduring quality.

Félix later sealed the win with his second of the night, volleying past Henri Avagyan.

Armenia offered little resistance, though Tigran Barseghyan forced a save from Diogo Costa in their best chance.

Portugal’s win extended their unbeaten record against Armenia to seven matches and lifted them to the top of Group F.
