Real Madrid stormed back to the top of LaLiga with a clinical 4-1 victory over Real
Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabeu, stretching their winning streak to eight league
matches and ending the visitors’ 11-game unbeaten run in all competitions.
Trent Alexander-Arnold made an instant impact on his first start since December,
supplying a curling cross that Gonzalo García turned home inside five minutes.
Sociedad had earlier gone close through Mikel Oyarzabal and the striker later levelled
from the spot after Dean Huijsen’s foul.
Madrid responded immediately. Vinícius Júnior won and converted a penalty in Kylian
Mbappé’s absence before Federico Valverde rifled in a third from the edge of the box to
seize control before half-time.
Vinícius added his second from 12 yards early in the second half after another foul by
Jon Aramburu, taking his league tally to eight.
Thibaut Courtois produced a smart save to deny Jon Martín as Carlo Ancelotti’s men
cruised to victory.
It is now 18 wins from 18 when Madrid score first this season, a statistic that underlines
their relentless charge at the summit.
