World number one Aryna Sabalenka powered past Marie Bouzkova in straight sets on Friday, securing a spot in the Brisbane International semi-finals.

The Belarusian star defeated the Czech 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 45 minutes, maintaining her dominant form ahead of the Australian Open.

Sabalenka, a two-time Australian Open champion, now prepares to face Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva, who delivered a stunning 6-4, 7-6(2) victory over Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur.

Reflecting on her performance, Sabalenka praised Bouzkova’s resilience: “Her movement is really great. I’m glad I could stay focused and finish in straight sets.”

The 17-year-old Andreeva displayed maturity beyond her years, overcoming the crafty shot-making of Jabeur, a two-time Wimbledon finalist returning from injury.

In other matches, defending men’s champion Grigor Dimitrov advanced after Jordan Thompson retired hurt.

Dimitrov will face Jiri Lehecka, while French ace machine Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard awaits the winner of Novak Djokovic and Reilly Opelka.

The Australian Open kicks off January 12.
