Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka moved into the US Open semi-finals without hitting a ball after Marketa Vondrousova pulled out of their quarter-final clash on Tuesday due to injury.
Vondrousova, the 2023 Wimbledon winner, had impressed in New York with victories over Jasmine Paolini and Elena Rybakina, but fitness issues again cut her campaign short.
The 26-year-old was one of three Czech women to reach the last eight.
Top seed Sabalenka will now face American Jessica Pegula in the semi-finals, a repeat of last year’s final at Flushing Meadows.
