Salah Makes History with Third PFA Player of the Year Award

August 20, 2025

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been named the Professional Footballers’ Association men’s player of the year, becoming the first player to win the prize three times.

The 33-year-old was central to Liverpool’s title-winning campaign last season, finishing as the Premier League’s top scorer with 29 goals and contributing 18 assists.

He has now completed a clean sweep of individual honours, having already collected the league’s player of the season award and the Football Writers’ Association prize.

Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers received the young player of the year award, while former England manager Gareth Southgate was recognised with the PFA merit award for his service to the game and achievements with the national team.

Salah reflected on his journey from Egypt to global success, saying his ambitions grew as his career developed:

“Of course I wanted to be a football player and I wanted to be famous and provide for my family, but you don’t think about the big stuff when you are still in Egypt. When you grow, you start to see things differently and you start to have ambition and you start to see the bigger picture.”

The Liverpool star edged out Alexis Mac Allister, Bruno Fernandes, Alexander Isak, Cole Palmer and Declan Rice, who were also shortlisted for the award.
