Mohamed Salah has been included in Liverpool’s squad for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Brighton following positive talks with head coach Arne Slot on Friday.
The decision was taken with the club’s wider interests in mind, particularly with Liverpool short of attacking options due to injuries.
Issues between Salah and the club are understood to be unresolved, but discussions will continue between Liverpool and the player’s agent, Ramy Abbas, while the forward is away at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Salah was left out of the travelling party for Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Inter Milan after claiming his relationship with Slot had broken down and that he had been “thrown under the bus” following Liverpool’s 3-3 draw at Leeds, where he was benched for a third straight match.
He later suggested the Brighton game could be his farewell at Anfield, even inviting his mother to attend.
Slot sought to calm tensions in his pre-match press conference, insisting there were “no reasons to not want Mohamed Salah to stay” at the club.
He added that further talks would shape the situation going forward, saying the outcome of his conversation with Salah would “determine how things will look”.
Liverpool host Brighton at Anfield at 16:00 WAT on Saturday, aiming to bounce back from two successive league draws.
Salah, who has scored 250 goals in 420 appearances for the Reds, has been an unused substitute in two of the club’s last three league games and last featured off the bench against Sunderland on 3 December.
With Cody Gakpo sidelined by injury and Alexander Isak nursing a knock, Salah’s return comes as a timely boost.
However, his availability may be short-lived, with the Egyptian set to depart for AFCON on Monday and potentially miss up to eight Liverpool matches if Egypt reach the final on 18 January.
