Former Senator Shehu Sani, ex-presidential aide Reno Omokri and former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode are reportedly among prominent Nigerians nominated for ambassadorial appointments by the federal government. Others said to be on the list include former governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, GTBank co-founder Fola Adeola and former Lagos Deputy Governor Femi Pedro.
Sources familiar with the process revealed that the nominees are currently undergoing security screening by the Department of State Services (DSS). One of the nominees who requested anonymity confirmed the nomination on Sunday.
A presidency official who also spoke anonymously explained that the list would be made public once the screening is concluded—stating that “Only those who have been cleared are announced. The process is ongoing.”
President Bola Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga had previously emphasized that the nomination process must be thorough before the final list is submitted to the National Assembly. Nigeria recalled its ambassadors last year without immediate replacements.
