Diego Simeone insists Atletico Madrid are still in the LaLiga title race despite recent setbacks, as his side looks to bounce back against Espanyol this weekend.
Atletico, currently third, are seven points behind leaders Barcelona after a tough month that saw them lose back-to-back league games and exit the Champions League.
However, Simeone hopes the confidence gained from international duty will lift his players, with key stars like Alexander Sorloth and Giuliano Simeone shining for their countries.
“Going to the national team is a positive energy,” Simeone said. “Winning always makes you happier.”
The Argentine coach, who has won LaLiga twice with Atletico, believes the title race is far from settled, with 10 rounds still to play.
“The last five games decide the season,” he noted. “Whoever arrives with a chance will compete for the objective.”
Despite their struggles, Simeone warned against underestimating 15th-placed Espanyol.
“LaLiga is tough. Everyone has their moments… but we are back.”
