Jannik Sinner kept his US Open title defence firmly on track with a commanding 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 win over fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the quarter-finals on Wednesday night.
The world number one wasted little time asserting his dominance, racing to a 5-0 lead in the first set before closing it out with ease.
Musetti briefly tested him in the second, but Sinner’s precision and relentless baseline hitting quickly restored control.
Victory extended the Australian Open champion’s unbeaten run on hard courts to 26 matches, underlining his status as the man to beat in New York.
He now faces Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime for a place in the final.
“It was a good performance, I was very solid,” Sinner said after the win. “Obviously we know each other well, but when you step on court the friendship stops until the last point.
Playing here at night means so much, with amazing support from so many Italians.”
The 23-year-old remains just two victories away from successfully defending his crown.
